Indian Police Service Selection Criteria

The IPS selection procedure is a six stage procedure which includes applying for the exam, appearing in preliminary exam followed by mains and interview, document verification and service allocation. IPS Selection Procedure

The Civil Services Examination is conducted every year by the UPSC (constitutional body) of India. The following stages will be considered for IPS 2019 Selection.

  • Stage 1: Preliminary Exam (Objective type questions-100 Marks)
  • Stage 2: Main Exam (Descriptive Type)
  • Stage 3: Personal Interview (275 Marks)

Only main exam and Interview Marks will be considered for final selection list.

IAS Selection Process 2019 – Various Stages of Selection

The Authority will prepare a merit list final merit list according to candidate performance in all stages Stage-1: Preliminary Exam, Stage-2: Main Exam and Stage-3: Personal Interview.

IPS 2019 Preliminary Examination:

All the candidates registered for the examination have to appear for the preliminary examination. This is the first stage of screening of candidates. In the Preliminary examination, the candidates will have to appear for two compulsory papers carrying 200 marks each. The candidates declared qualified in the Preliminary Examination will be eligible for admission to the Main Examination. The marks obtained in Preliminary Examination will not be counted in the final order of merit.

IPS 2019 Mains Examination

The Mains Examination of IPS 2019 consists of 9 conventional type papers, out of which two papers are qualifying in nature. Candidates who will obtain minimum qualifying marks in written examination will be called for the interview. The total marks of written examination is 1750. Based on IAS result, candidates will be selected for interview.

IPS Interview Round

The interview will assess the personality of candidates for a career in public service. The interview will carry 275 marks. Candidates on the basis of their marks in written examination and interview will be allotted ranks as per category. Only the marks of mains examination will be considered for final merit list.
