About IRPS Exam: The Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS) is a Group -A Central Service. The primary responsibility of the service is to manage the Human Resources of the Indian Railways. There are two modes of recruitment are followed for Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS). One is through Civil Services Examination conducted by UPSC every year; secondly through promotion of Group ‘B’ Personnel Officers working on zonal Railways to IRPS. Roughly, 50% posts are meant for Direct Recruitment and 50% posts are filled through promotion from Group ‘B’ Cadre.

The UPSC civil services 2019 will commence with the Prelims exam due to be held on 2nd June 2019. Lakhs of people will take the exam hoping to become IAS or IPS officers in the future. Eligibility Criteria for the IRPS Exam
Nationality:
- He must be a citizen of India
- He should be a citizen of Nepal
- He should be a citizen of Bhutan
- He should be a person of Indian Origin who has come from Malawi, Myanmar, Ethiopia, Pakistan, Vietnam, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zaire, or Sri Lanka with a purpose of permanently living in India
- He must be a Tibetan Refugee who got here in India before January 1, 1962, as well as settled completely in India
Educational Qualification:
- Candidates need to hold a diploma from any of the college recognized by the UGC or possess an equal qualification.
- Candidates should maintain a Bachelor’s Degree from any of the recognized universities
- Candidates with technical and professional qualifications recognized by the Government or its equal are also eligible to use
- Candidates who’ve passed the very last year of MBBS or any Medical Examination, however, are yet to finish the internship also can seem for the Main Examination. Moreover, they need to put up a certificate from the concerned college or University from where they have passed the final professional medical examination.
Age Limit:
- Minimum age: 21 years
- Maximum age: 30 years
Age Relaxation:
- For SC/ST candidates: 5 years
- For OBC candidates: 3 years
- For participants coming from the State of Jammu & Kashmir: 5 years
- For the deaf-mute, Blind, Orthopaedically handicapped people: 5 years
- For Ex-servicemen comprising Commissioned officers and ECOs/SSCOs: 5 years
- For Military Servicemen : 5 years
- For ECOs/SSCOs (who finished an initial period of assignment of 5 years of Military Service): 5 years
- For Defense Services personnel: 5 years
Number of attempts:
The maximum number of attempts is as follows:
- General Category Candidates: 6 attempts
- OBC Candidates: 9 attempts
- SC/ST Candidates: No restriction
- Physically handicapped- 9 attempts for general and OBC, while unlimited for SC/ST
IRPS Application & Registration Form 2019
To apply for IRPS exam, it is compulsory to apply by filling up the IRPS application and registration form. It should be noted that the IRPS 2019 preliminary exam application forms are available only by way of online on the official web portal of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
Indian Railways Personnel Service SyllabusÂ
The syllabus prescribed by Union Public Service Commission is split into three categories named as Preliminary, Mains, and Interview.
The Preliminary examination will consist of 2 papers with objective type questions. Both these papers will carry 200 marks each. CSAT is the Paper-II of Preliminary Exam.
For this, the candidate will have to score a minimum 33% of marks, else they will not qualify for the Main examination. Moreover, Paper-I of prelims comprises the information about the current affairs, while Paper-II or CSAT will be like the aptitude test.
The Main examination is designed to assess a participant’s academic expertise in his/her specialized subject. The main objective of this exam is to focus on testing candidates’ competency to present knowledge in a coherent manner.
Also, this exam has 9 papers. Both Prelims and Mains exam are designed like a written exam.
The interview will be faced by only those candidates who will have been cleared with the above steps. Also, the final outcome will depend on the marks obtained in Main examination and Interview.
