Pondicherry Civil Services Exam Eligibility Criteria

In this section we are providing eligibility criteria to apply for Pondicherry civil services exam. The eligibility criteria details like age, nationality and educational qualification.

Educational Qualification

  • The candidate should complete bachelor’s degree from any recognized college or university.
  • The candidate with any technical and professional qualification recognized by the government or equivalent can apply for this exam.
  • The student who have completed their final year MBBS or any other related medical exam and still waiting to complete their internship can apply for this exam.
  • Candidates who have pursuing their final year degree can apply for UPSC prelims exam.

Age Limit

The minimum age limit for a candidate to apply for Pondicherry civil services exam is 21 years and maximum age limit is 30 years. However, age relaxation is applicable for different categories.

  • For OBC candidates the age relaxation of 3 years is applicable.
  • For SC/ST candidates the age relaxation of 5 years is given.
  • For PHD candidates the age relaxation of 10 years.
  • For candidates domiciled in state of Jammu and Kashmir has age relaxation of 5 years.
  • For candidates regarded as ECOs/SSCOs can able to get age relaxation of 5 years.

Nationality

  • Candidate should be citizen of India
  • The candidate migrated from different countries and permanently settled in India can apply for this exam.
  • Candidates should be the citizen of Bhutan or Nepal.
  • Candidate should be Tibetan Refugee and settled in India can apply for exam.

Number of Attempts

  • For general candidates the number of attempts to attend exam is 6 times.
  • For SC/ST candidates the number of attempts are there is no limit they can attempt exam till they reach their maximum age limit.
  • For OBC candidates the number of attempts will be 9.

Pondicherry Civil Services Exam Pattern

This is a 3 level examination. The 3 levels of exam are

  • Preliminary Exam
  • Mains Exam
  • Personal Interview

Preliminary Exam

This is the 1st level exam. This is a pen and paper based exam. The prelims exam consists of 2 papers. Each paper is conducted for 200 marks. The duration of each paper is 2 hours. The questions in preliminary exam are MCQs.

Mains Exam

This is the 2nd level of UPSC exam. The candidates who have qualified in preliminary exam are eligible to attend mains exam. The mains exam consists of 9 papers, out of them 2 papers are optional. This is a pen and paper based exam. The mains exam is a descriptive type exam.

Personal Interview

This is the last level in UPSC exam. The candidates who cleared mains exam are eligible for personal interview round. This level is conducted to test candidate’s mental alertness and critical powers.
