Traffic Apprentice Job Description
Traffic Apprentice in short is known as TA. This post comes under Group C non-technical post in Indian Railways. Candidates selected for Traffic Apprentice post are employed in operations and transportation department in Indian Railways. Traffic Apprentices are trained as a multi skilled supervisors in operations branch. The candidates selected as a Traffic Apprentice should undergo training for a period of 2 years. They are given training in different work categories of Traffic transportation department. During the training period they are given training in the following job roles:
- Station Master
- Train Guard
- Section Controller
- Yard Masters
- Traffic Inspectors
After training period is completed they are appointed as traffic apprentice in respective cadre, they are appointed in the above mentioned posts based on the requirements.
Traffic Apprentice Eligibility Criteria
The minimum educational qualification to apply for traffic apprentice job is the candidate should hold a degree from any recognized college or university. The candidate can also hold Diploma in Rail Transport & Management, Transport Economics, Multimodal Transport awarded by Institute of Rail Rail Transport, Bhawan, and New Delhi.

Traffic Apprentice Salary
- Pay Scale – Rs.9300/- to Rs.34,800/-
- Grade Pay – Rs.4200/-
- Initial Pay – Rs.9300/-
- Total Pay = Pay Scale + Grade pay – Rs.13,500/-
Other Allowances:
The candidates are provided other allowances along with salary. The major allowances are
- DA on Total Pay Above
- Transport Allowance
- House Rent Allowance
- Kilometreage Allowance
- Deductions of 10% from salary towards new pension scheme
