Assistant Station Master

The assistant station master (ASM) is in charge of running of trains at his station of posting. As an ASM you will be operating the signals, ensuring that all tasks are completed as per the rule book. An ASM has to work in shifts, however the working schedule of 8 hours per day.

Graduate Engineer

Graduate Engineers are specialized design, installation, testing, commissioning and handback of signalling schemes, varying in size from updating point machines and level crossings to major upgrades at Stafford and East Kent. They work closely with the Rail Communication Systems and Rail Solutions businesses to ensure we deliver a package encompassing all rail infrastructure.

Commercial Apprentice

A commercial apprentice is trained for a period of two years and is made able to work in the various commercial branches of Railways. The training is known to produce multi-skilled supervisor or inspector post in commercial categories.  Commercial Apprentice will be posted as Commercial Supervisor/ Goods Supervisor/ Parcel Supervisor/ Commercial Inspector.

Traffic Apprentice

Traffic Apprentices are appointed as multi skilled supervisors in Transportation (Operations) branch. TA will first undergo two years training in various categories of working in Traffic – i.e. as Station Master, Guard, Section Controller, Yard Master and Traffic inspector. Traffic Apprentice might have to work independently as Station Master, Yard Master and Guard during the training period.

Enquiry cum Reservation Clerk

Job of ECRC is to issue computerized reserved tickets for Railway passengers and to respond to enquiries regarding issue of the same or helping the passengers to plan their travel. The job is only indoor, in most of the places in air conditioned offices. As such it is one of the best available posts for ladies in Indian Railways. In most of the stations ECRC works in two shifts on alternate days – from 8-14 hours and 14-22 hours.

Senior Clerk cum Typist

The main job is to assign work to juniors and check or supervise their work. The highest possibility is usually under the personnel department which is under the control of senior divisional personnel officer. Proficiency over computers and peripherals handling is the basic requirement of Senior Clerk.

Goods Guard

Guard is the in charge of a running train. Goods Guard will be in charge of a goods train. He checks the entire formation for anything that can endanger safe running of trains, checks that doors of wagons are closed, check the brake continuity with Loco Pilot, sign the Brake Power Certificate (BPC) after ensuring sufficient brake power, constantly monitor the formation on the run for any abnormalities etc.

Senior Section Engineer

Senior Section Engineer job involved in inspecting the engines for its safety & efficiency and supervising if the repair work is done correctly. SSE supervisor in Mechanical department of Railways. SSE can be posted either station or Production Units/Workshops. In stations he is known as Chief Train Examiner. He will be in charge of maintenance of trains. It is the duty of SSE to see that Goods wagons and passenger coaches are in good fettle and ready in time for train service as required by the operating personnel.

Jr. Accounts Assistant

Junior Accounts Assistant maintains the accounts of the railway in accordance with prescribed rules. They performs internal check of transactions affecting the receipts and expenditure of railway. They deals in settlement of claims against railways and involves in advising the administration involving railway finance.  They deals in compilation of budgets in consultation with other departments and monitoring the budgetary control procedures as may be laid down in the relevant orders and code rules from time to time etc.

Senior Time Keeper

As the name indicates a senior time keeper has to primarily keep up time. It is all about controlling the entire network of railways i.e. arrivals, departures, delays, speed etc. The process should be streamlined in a group consisting of similar senior time keepers of other zones. Smooth operation of movement should be ensured in the designated zone. The candidate should be able to perform well under pressure and respond quickly to changes and it is important to maintain a properly refined channel throughout.
