The basic salary of an IAS officer is different for entry level candidates and for experienced candidates.
After the 7th grade pay commission, the basic pay of an entry level IAS officer is Rs.56, 100 per month. The IAS officer is also entitled with many other allowances like Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA) and Travel Allowance (TA). These allowances are not combined with basic pay but these allowances are provided separately.

The Scale of IAS Officers’ Salary Structure
- In IAS officers’ salary there are total of 18 pay levels.
- Generally promotion for IAS officers is given for every 4-5 years.
- The annual increment of salary of IAS officer ranges from Rs.1000/- to Rs.5000/-.
- The highest salary pay of IAS officer of Level 18 i.e. post of Cabinet secretary to the government of India is Rs.2, 50,000/- per month.
Basic Duties of an IAS Officer
In the life of  IAS officer, basic duties play a key role. The basic duties of an IAS officer deals with the task of handling government affairs, the affairs involve farming, implementation of policies, maintaining law and order etc. The IAS officer has to undertake start of the implementation process and should to travel to important places and sites. In addition the IAS officer should also look after to funds issued by government. The IAS officers are answerable to the State or Parliament legislatures.
Duties of IAS Officer at Entry Level – In District Level
At the Entry Level IAS officers will be assigned to join in State administration at Sub-divisional level, as Sub-divisional magistrate, and the IAS officer have to look after law, order, administration and development works in the assigned area, under his/her jurisdiction.
At this level of District magistrate or District Collector, IAS officers supervise policy formulation, implementation and developmental works in the concerned district.

During the career path of an IAS officer, they will serve in the State Secretariat or as Head of Departments in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).
